ACCLAIMED SOLICITOR ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM ROTHERA DOWSON

31/03/2011

One of Nottinghamshire’s most acclaimed and long-serving solicitors has announced her retirement after 46 years in the profession.

Christine Doughty leaves her position as consultant and head of the Family and Matrimonial team at law firm Rothera Dowson, after becoming one of the best-known and most respected professionals in her field of work.

Coinciding with her retirement, Christine has also been announced as the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nottinghamshire Law Society.

She was presented with the award in recognition of her service to the profession at the Society’s annual dinner at the East Midlands Conference Centre.

After leaving Nottingham High School for Girls, Christine began her legal career by working as a secretary for one of the partners at Crockford and Anderson (now known as Andersons), where she undertook family and criminal work. After a brief spell at Browne Jacobson, she joined German and Soar and qualified as a solicitor in 1980. Christine went on to join Rothera Dowson in October 2001, as a partner and then senior partner.

Speaking at a reception to mark her retirement, Christine said:

“Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the country’s most talented solicitors. I’ve also had the chance to train a host of emerging legal talent and it has been a pleasure to watch these individuals develop into successful practicing solicitors. I’m confident that many of them will be future leaders in their fields of work.

“I’m leaving the Family and Matrimonial team at Rothera Dowson in very capable hands and I look forward to seeing the firm continue to go from strength-to-strength.”

Alongside her work at Rothera Dowson, Christine is also a Higher Court Advocate (Civil) and a member of the judiciary - sitting as a Deputy District Judge in the County Court.  In addition, she assesses applications for the Law Society’s Family Law and Children Panel Accreditation Schemes and interviews for Children Panel Applications. She is also an Independent Costs Assessor for the Legal Services Commission.
As well as being a past President of the Nottinghamshire Law Society, Christine is also a member of several other organisations, including: Resolution, Association of Child Care Lawyers, Law Society Children Panel, Family Law Panel and the Association of Higher Court Advocates.
