ROTHERA DOWSON APPOINTS NEW HEAD OF EMPLOYMENT

23/12/2009

Nottingham law firm Rothera Dowson has announced the appointment of John Buchanan as the new head of its growing employment department - his appointment being the second in as many months. Mr Buchanan was previously an associate at DWF solicitors in the North West, where he worked for almost five years.

Originally from Ravenshead to the north of the city, Mr Buchanan returns to Nottingham after a number of years away forging a successful career in and out of the UK. The 33 year old is clearly happy to be back ‘home’, as he explains:

I enjoyed working in the North West and also overseas in Japan, but it is great to be back in the East Midlands. Location was not the reason I came here, but it is a huge bonus for me.

“My main motivation for joining Rothera Dowson was the outstanding opportunity to develop the employment department at a very well established Nottingham firm. My long-term ambition is to establish the Firm as a major regional player in the employment law arena. It will take some time and a lot of hard work, but that’s what I’m here for.”

Mr Buchanan started his career working for the Japanese government before specialising in employment law eight years ago. He has significant experience advising organisations on issues ranging from discrimination in the workplace to business acquisitions, disposals and reorganisations, terms and conditions of employment, disciplinary and grievance procedures, termination of employment and TUPE. He also regularly presents at seminars, workshops and training events and has considerable advocacy experience having frequently represented clients in employment tribunals.

Away from his desk at Rothera Dowson’s city centre office in Kayes Walk, John is an avid Nottingham Forest fan despite previously advising both Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers on behalf of former employers..
