Notary Public

A Notary Public is an officer of law appointed by the Court of Faculties. A Notary’s role is to attest, certify under his official seal, and authenticate deeds and other such documents. The authentication of documents by a Notary renders them acceptable for use anywhere in the world.

Usually you would need a Notary Public when:

  • documents will be used in another country
  • documents require legalisation
  • translations of documents will be used in another country
  • buying property abroad
  • litigating in foreign courts

Services include Notarising:

  • Property documents for use abroad
  • Education certificates for use abroad
  • Lost passport and birth certificates
  • Change of name certificates
  • Certified translations
  • Sponsorship and immigration forms
  • Powers of Attorney for use abroad
  • Affidavits for use abroad
  • International Commercial Agreements
  • Marriage certificates and confirmation of single status
  • Certified copy documents
  • Noting and protesting of negotiable instruments
  • Ship protests
  • Statutory declarations
  • Legalisation and Apostille services

The first task of the Notary is to verify the identity and current address in the United Kingdom of the Client appearing before him.

The Client must, therefore, bring his Passport and two utility bills or bank statements not more than three months old to their appointment with the Notary.

The fee, which is payable at the appointment, is based on the time spent and the complexity involved in the particular matter.  There is an hourly rate and a minimum fee laid down by the Notaries Society.  Such fee is liable to  V.A.T.
